Are We Taking The Action We Know is Needed?

In 2023, focus has  increasingly been on green wash, a behaviour that may be tempting for many when faced with the overwhelm of making a change.

Within the event sector 2023 has seen a flood of new events created to talk about sustainability, industry associations continue to launch initiatives on sustainability and there is a definite increase of LinkedIn posts announcing people’s new education credentials in the area of sustainability.

20 years ago this  would have been fantastic, even 10 years ago this would have been impactful.

Now it can be described as ‘talk’.

We know we are producing too much carbon and waste so every event on the topic of sustainability adds to  that. We know what scientists are asking us to do about addressing carbon so every new association initiative that asks for something different to that is just creating confusion and we know the behaviours that the world needs less of, and it doesn’t matter what education we have if we’re still doing those behaviours the environment is still negatively impacted by them

In 2023 there is no replacement for taking the action we know we need to take.

No press release, no initiative on convenient actions, no education  qualifications will make a difference to our air and  water quality, nature and all the species living on the planet.

Knowing and taking the actions is the story to be telling - that is  the new approach for all of us and talking about what happens when we go into the unknown and take the actions we know we need to take but don’t know what result they will create, that’s the value that future generations will want from us.
